Meredith Herald Volume XII, Issue 26 April 17,1996 Raleigh. North Carolina "A Knight of Royalty" at the Meredith formal Meredith seniors celebrate their last formal at A Knight of Royalty. By Carol Conerly The Raleigh Civic Center was decked out for "A Knight of Royalty" that many Meredith angels will not soon forget Saturday night. Balloons in the royal colors of purple and gold were floating above tables and chairs all around the room. A backdrop fea turing a castle’s ballroom hung be hind the DJ- to create an atmosphere of royalty. The tables were filled with gold crowns, purple streamers, white candles and gold stars which all con tributed to the theme of a Knight of Royalty. The women of Meredith college and their dates looked spectacular for anightonthetown. Thereweredress blues and midnight black tuxedos, top hats and even canes. Several dates grabbed gold crowns off the tables which they wore like royalty. Meredith women sported both short and sassy dresses and long and elegant gowns. There were purple sequins, black feathers, turquoise beads, and navy chiffon just to name a few of the unique styles worn Saturday night. The dance began at 9pmand prob ably would have lasted all night if the D.J. had not packed his bags at lam. Cathy Tunstall, one of the dance committee’s junior co-chairs, said, “1 was very impressed with the turnout. People showed up earlier and stayed later. The D.J. was the key.” He did keep everyone happy. No music lover could have been left unsatisfied. Lorenzo King of L.K. Productions played country, techno, rap and lots of beach and disco favorites. Dancers covered the floor until the very end of the evening. The general consensus on campus seems to be that "A Knight of Royalty" was a huge success. Elizabeth Williamson said, “I danced all night to lots of great music. The D.J. was awe some.” Tori Nicholls was also happy with her evening. She said, “Usually I'm not much of a dancer, but the music was so good that 1 don’t think 1 sat down all night.” There were not many people sitting down either. Most of the chairs were filled with the jackets and high heels of those out on the floor. The only justified complaint was the re freshment table ran out of punch and cups at about 11:30 p.m. Other than that, the "Knight of Royalty* was an unqualified success. Cheryl Jenkins from Student Acth'ities and the coKliaits from each class deserve a huge thank- you for putting so much lime and ef fort into making this Spring Formal one we will not soon forget. The seniors won best skit at Stunt, for which they performed scenes out of The Wizard of Oz.
